Russia has been blamed by Ukraine for a missile strike that killed two people in Nato member Poland, raising fears of an escalation in the conflict, The Scotsman reports. It says Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has called an urgent national security meeting. The Kremlin has denied responsibility.

The Times warned the strike “threatened to drag Nato allies into direct conflict” with Russia, which fired more than 100 missiles at Ukraine on Tuesday. The US government said it was too early to directly blame Vladimir Putin for the attack. The Times also reports an Ipsos poll which found Scottish voters are equally optimistic about the economic prospects of independence as they are about the current status quo in the UK.

The Daily Telegraph features a picture at the scene of the explosion in Poland, showing a farm vehicle overturned next to a large crater near the village of Przewodow. Although Ukraine is not a Nato member, President Volodymyr Zelensky said a deadly attack on a Nato-member Poland “is an attack on us all”, reports the paper.

The Metro notes that the Russian missile barrage on Ukraine was one of the biggest so far in the war. Targets included Lviv, which is just 43 miles from the Polish border.

The i says “Putin’s war has spilled into Poland”. There has been speculation over whether or not the missile strikes were intentional, and Poland has been cautious with the language it uses to describe the explosion.

GP surgeries across Scotland are at at risk of collapse, The Herald reports. Research by BMA Scotland has found increased demand and staff shortages have left practices at “tipping point”. The paper also leads on a stooshie at Holyrood, where a woman was removed from the gallery of the Equalities committee because she refused to remove a scarf in suffragette colours.

The Scottish Daily Mail says the woman’s removal by parliamentary staff kicked off a “furious row”, with the presiding officer later apologising. The woman was ejected as MSPs on the equalities committee considered amendments to gender recognition reforms.

Gang members using machetes, baseball bats and a shotgun have clashed in North Lanarkshire, the Daily Record reports. Footage has emerged of the violent confrontations, which are said to be between “notorious” family clans. Police say they are investigating.

The Scottish Tories have been criticised by Holyrood ministers for listing Police Scotland as being “on strike”. Officers accepted a pay deal in August and are legally barred from going on strike. The Conservatives told The National they will not take down a social media graphic with the claim because it “correctly highlighted the wave of disruption that has been caused by the SNP’s inaction” on pay disputes.

The Scottish Daily Express leads on the news that Rishi Sunak has confirmed a £4.2bn contract for five Navy warships to built on the Clyde. The paper says the announcement has been described as a “hammer blow” to the independence movement.

A 20-year-old man convicted of murdering a teenager at a party in Aberdeen told police he couldn’t remember the attack because he had consumed drugs and alcohol, the Evening Express reports. Sean O’Halloran pled guilty to killing Scott Hector in April 2021. Connor Adams, 18, pled guilty to culpable homicide.

The Scottish Sun continues to report Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan – covering the footballer’s heartache after the loss of his son at birth. “I talk to him all the time”, Ronaldo says.

The Daily Star of Scotland warns Scots are facing a shortage of quality Christmas trees this year, with families urged to pre-order.

Highland Council is to consider an overhaul of its household waste system. Residents could be given smaller bins to curb the amount of rubbish going to landfill, The Press and Journal says.

The Courier leads on the news that Dundee’s Wellgate Centre could be demolished as part of plans to regenerate the city.

The Evening Telegraph says the Keiller centre has also been earmarked for development as part of proposals from Dundee City Council to revamp the city centre.

The Edinburgh Evening News reports teachers are having to go to work an hour early due to slow computers. The EIS union told the city council’s education committee that it was routinely taking teachers 20 minutes to log on to their laptops. The paper also includes a tribute to former Hibernian attacker Jimmy O’Rourke, who has died aged of 76.
