Faroe Islands 0-6 Scotland: Visitors end World Cup qualifying campaign with big win

Scotland prepared for the 2023 Women’s World Cup play-off draw with a six-goal thrashing of the Faroe Islands in their final qualifier.

Rachel Corsie and Jen Beattie both nodded in to add a fifth and sixth for Pedro Martinez Losa’s side, who had already booked a spot in Friday’s play-off draw.

Despite finishing second in Group B, Scotland look set to be amongst the unseeded nations, meaning they will have to navigate two one-off ties to qualify for the finals in Australia and New Zealand.

Cuthbert then provided for Real Madrid midfielder Weir, who doubled the advantage after creating room for herself before drilling in a second from 20 yards, before Weir assisted for Chelsea’s Cuthbert to lash in a stunning long-range effort.

And it was four before the interval when the dangerous Claire Emslie put in a low cross for Thomas to finish at the near post via a slight deflection.

It was more of the same after the break when Emslie again created havoc by crossing for captain Corsie to glance in a fifth.

Corsie’s centre-back partner Beattie then got in on the act by nodding in at the back post, capping off a convincing night’s work which acts as perfect preparation for October’s play-offs.
