Northern Ireland captain Marissa Callaghan has suffered a “minor toe injury” but is expected to be fit to play in the Euros this summer.
The Irish FA confirmed details of the Cliftonville midfielder’s injury on Thursday after she attended her side’s Women’s Premiership win over Glentoran on Wednesday evening on crutches.
The Irish FA said the 36-year-old was on crutches “to alleviate and protect” the injury as much as possible.
The Euro 2022 finals begin on 6 July.
Northern Ireland’s first game at their maiden major tournament, which is being hosted by England, is against Norway in Southampton a day later.
Callaghan has been instrumental in helping Kenny Shiels’ history-making squad qualify for the tournament.
It was initially feared that the injury, which she picked up last week, could threaten her participation at the Euros but the IFA said they are confident she will return to fitness before then.
Callaghan’s Cliftonville and international team-mates Abbie Magee and Kelsie Burrows also missed Wednesday’s game but are set to return to action next week.
The trio have been training as part of Northern Ireland’s full-time camp ahead of the Euro 2022 finals.
