April 4 (UPI) — The Kansas Jayhawks overcame a 15-point halftime deficit and rallied for a 72-69 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels in the men’s basketball National Championship Game on Monday night in New Orleans.
The Jayhawks, down by as many as 16 points in the first half, completed the largest comeback victory in title game history.
This is the Jayhawks’ fourth men’s basketball national title in school history — tied for the sixth-most ever. It is Kansas’ first championship since 2008, when head coach Bill Self guided the program past No. 1 seed Memphis in overtime.
