Two men were arraigned at the Meru Law courts on Thursday for abducting a nun and stealing from her in Meru County.
Nixon Kinyua and Patrick Ngure denied robbery with violence charges against them and were released on bond.
The two were arrested on February 5 for abducting a nun who was travelling from Kiamuri to Meru.
She is said to have met the two men at a bus stop and they offered to drop her at her destination.
“The driver of the car, posing as a good Samaritan, offered to drop her at her destination. They claimed they were heading to Nanyuki,” DCI said n Twitter.
The nun took this as an act of humanity. She took the front seat and they drove off.
According to the detectives, the driver engaged the nun in a lengthy conversation to earn her trust.
“He even thanked the nun for their humanitarian work,” DCI said.
Hell broke loose when the nun arrived at her destination in Gatimbi and asked the driver to stop, but he declined.
“Before the driver responded, her seat was immediately reclined by another man who had taken cover at the back seat and blindfolded her using her leso,” DCI tweeted.
In a statement, the DCI said the abductors took money from her purse, her Mpesa account and forced her to make distress calls to two other people, who equally sent more cash.
The men are said to have threatened the nun if she failed to cooperate.
They later dumped her in a secluded area and took off. The nun reported the meter to the police and detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau took over investigations.
Through digital forensic analysis conducted at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, they managed to arrest the two suspects along the Kitui-Kibwezi road, as they preyed on more victims.
The public is advised to be cautious and avoid accepting rides from strangers posing as good Samaritans.
