Samsung has announced that it will offer updates for up to four generations of Android and One UI on select Galaxy devices. According to the Korean giant, the goal is to ensure a current and safer mobile experience for customers.
For this to be possible, Samsung developers have started working in partnership with partners to improve the Android update process through the Samsung One user interface. In general, the company must make adjustments to make modern features compatible with devices. a little more out of date — although it’s not clear what can be done effectively.
Until then, the company promised support for up to three generations of improvements for phones and tablets, which allowed millions of Galaxy line owners to keep their devices for about 3 or 4 years. With the expansion, this term can be extended to up to 5 years of useful life, so the manufacturer’s devices would be closer to the support offered by Apple.

This change should only affect some smartphones in the Galaxy S, Z and A series, in addition to some tablet lines. The idea is to expand this premise in the future to other products in the Galaxy ecosystem, but there is still nothing concrete. For One UI Watch and Wear, the update period will also be four years, so smartwatch owners will have more time to enjoy their Galaxy Watch.
The Korean giant also promises an improvement in the integration of One UI with the Samsung Knox security system to offer more complete protection against digital threats. Samsung Galaxy Enterprise Edition customers will still receive a one-year license to use Knox Suite solutions and thus have a complete management panel on their mobile screen.
Which Samsung devices will be covered?
Here are the Galaxy devices eligible to receive four generations of One UI and five years of security updates:
Galaxy S series
Galaxy Z series
- Galaxy Z Fold3
- Galaxy Z Flip3
- next series devices
Galaxy A series
Galaxy tablets
One UI Watch and Wear OS
It is worth remembering that the devices not covered lack adequate hardware specifications to support so many years of updates. Even so, the ineligible Galaxy must still have three generations of Android updates, so you can rest easy if you switched phones in 2020 or 2021.
