A Disney+ exec may have let it slip when Obi-Wan Kenobithe new series of the universe Star Wars, will be released. So far, all information about the series is very scarce, but we may be surprised with a release very soon.
That’s because the platform’s programming director, Brandon SanGiovanni, let slip on his Twitter profile that the series focused on Jedi will be available as early as next May. In one post, he clearly says that Disney+ will have its own Obi-Wan saying “hello” to the world in the coming months. And, although I deleted the post, the internet was faster when it came to registering the mistake.
The executive even tried to justify himself and said that he himself created a non-existent mess. According to SanGiovanni, the message actually referred to an Obi-Wan comic that Marvel will release in May. Thus, he explains that he was referring to the comic book and not to the series, which still has no premiere date.

However, the Twitter post seems to say something quite different from this explanation, as it says “Our own Obi-Wan will say hello on Disney+”, that is, where this ambiguity with the comic does not fit.
putting the pieces together
Furthermore, the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi in May is something that makes a lot of sense, since the month has always been very important for Star Wars.
The first film in the saga, A new hopewas released on May 25, 1977 and there’s all the celebration around Star Wars Day on the 4th. It’s no coincidence that most of the franchise’s releases took place in this particular month.
Not to mention that May 2022 is even more special, as it marks the 45th anniversary of the original release of the first Star Wars.
Thus, it would make perfect sense to coincide the premieres, even more considering that Obi-Wan Kenobi connects directly with A new hope, the beginning of the whole saga in this galaxy far, far away. It would be a very nice way to celebrate — especially if we remember that the 4th and 25th will fall on a Wednesday, when the series are added to Disney+.
At the same time, the date also fits within the platform’s premiere schedule. Boba Fett’s Book towards its final stretch and, in March, it’s Marvel’s turn with the moon knight. So it wouldn’t be strange to imagine Obi-Wan arriving soon after and in time to blow out the franchise’s candles.
However, so far, none of this is official. Still, suspicions are huge and, if the rumor is confirmed, we should have news appearing very soon.
