AMD Radeon RX 7000 has engineer-enhanced 5 and 6 nm blend –

An AMD engineer may have confirmed that the company’s next generation of graphics cards, known so far as the Radeon RX 7000, should debut with models with 5nm and 6nm lithographs. The possibility had already been indicated by rumors in recent months, and now it seems to be practically confirmed with the listing, already removed from the professional’s profile.

Radeon RX 7000 GPUs can merge 5 and 6 nm

In an excerpt from his experience background, Infinity Fabric design team engineer Brian Walters cited some of the projects he has worked on in recent years. In addition to some models of Vega integrated GPUs, such as the Vega 11 and Vega 12, and almost all the chips in the Radeon RX 6000 family, including the Navi 21 and Navi 22, the expert cited some as yet unannounced new features, more specifically the GPUs Navi 31, Navi 32 and Navi 33, in addition to the MI300.

Thanks to rumors and leaks, as well as some teasers from AMD itself, it is already known that the three chips will be based on the long-awaited RDNA 3 microarchitecture and will compose the supposed RX 7000 family. The most interesting point, however, is in the list of lithographs used on each chip, which suggests a combination of the 5nm and 6nm manufacturing processes.

This is another point that had already been pointed out by leakers, but in a slightly different way, since only the Navi 33, seen as a kind of refresh of the Navi 21, was expected to arrive at 6 nm. The post indicates, however, that the robust Navi 32 and Navi 31 should also receive variants manufactured in 6 nm.

Although it seems counterintuitive, there are multiple reasons why AMD uses more than one lithograph in the next generation of Radeon cards. The most important of these is availability — having more than one manufacturing process expands production capacity, and reduces competition for single-lithograph silicon wafers. Costs must also be reduced by using slightly more mature and less advanced technology.

The prices would be just another reason for the choice, since the use of 6 nm could make cheaper models, such as a possible RX 7600 XT, for example. Be that as it may, it shouldn’t be long before we know more details about the new GPUs, as AMD itself has confirmed that the new line of GPUs will arrive later this year.

New plates are expected to debut in 2022

During an investor presentation to discuss fiscal 2021, which also broke revenue records, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su reinforced that the new Ryzen 7000 processors and RDNA 3-based graphics cards will arrive in 2022. The executive also reinforced the company’s commitment to combating the shortage of components and strengthening the brand’s positioning among the gaming public.

“Demand for our products is very high,” said Lisa Su, “and we look forward to another year of growth and significant market gains as we scale back production on our current products and launch our next wave of Zen 4 CPUs and RDNA 3 GPUs.” . We’ve also made substantial investments to secure the capacity needed to support our growth in 2022 and beyond.”

According to rumors, the Radeon RX 7000 family should be led by the RX 7900 XT, with a Navi 31 GPU, equipped with 15,360 cores organized into 120 Compute Units (CUs). The card would also feature 32GB of GDDR6 VRAM at 18Gbps, clocks of up to 2.5GHz and the new Infinity Cache 3D, memory stacked on top of the GPU to provide up to 512MB of high-speed cache. The combination would deliver 75 TFLOPs of computing power, nearly 3 times more than the RX 6900 XT.
