Google Opens Jobs for Next-Gen Tensor Development –

Google is hiring experts in the field of image processing in smartphone cameras. The vacancies were announced via a LinkedIn post in which Senior Brand Director Mike Coulter says he intends to form a new team in San Diego, California.

“[…] I need to fill full-time positions in image processing and verification at all levels for a new team in San Diego. […] This is an opportunity to be part of the team that introduced you to Tensor for the Pixel 6.”

Therefore, it is quite likely that the new employees will have their work focused on the development of a second generation for the Tensor processor, which should appear in the next high-end cell phones to be presented by Google.

Second generation of Tensor could appear this year

Google’s goals for the coming years should be related to the consolidation of the Tensor chip in the high-end smartphone market. Most of the novelties presented with the Pixel 6 line have to do with the new platform, which allows for a more integrated use with the phone’s software, through new artificial intelligence features — such as Magic Eraser, which deletes unwanted elements in photos. optimally and practically.

The second generation of the Tensor chip has already been identified in internal codes of Google applications with the code GS201 (the current platform is known as GS101), in addition to the codename “Cloudripper”. Not many details about the chipset are known yet, but it is expected to appear in a future Pixel 7 line, which could be launched in the second half of 2022 if the brand chooses to keep the one-year cycle between each generation of cell phones.
