Discover the National Geographic Science Experiment Series –

2022 kicked off with a fun debut on Disney+: Volunteers — All for Science. The series, originally from National Geographic, features a presentation by Rafael Cortez and talks about science in an unusual and fun way.

In volunteersthe presenter leads scientific experiments that answer common everyday questions, and this is done with a group of volunteers who are willing to go through great difficulties.

Cast and experiments

The cast of the series is made up of volunteers Angietta Rodriguez, Esteban Mascó, Micaela Lapegüe and Armando Álvares, who agreed to answer questions such as what is the minimum temperature that a human body can withstand? Why does it hurt more to pluck hair from your nose than from any other part of your body?

This dynamic, then, ends up presenting science in the form of humor and adventure, as the experiments take place with the volunteers giving up their bodies for the sake of science and, of course, for our enjoyment.

Dynamics

THE Kenyannews talked to Rafael Cortez, who told us a little about the experience of participating in the program. The comedian and presenter said he had a certain relationship with science since his childhood, but not because he got involved with the subject at school, but in the routine with his brothers.

“I was already a volunteer in my childhood, because the experiences I had were not with things and objects, but with my brothers”, says Cortez. He says he has three brothers and that his favorite “victim” in the experiments was his younger sister.

“If they let her, I would try to see if using hydrogen peroxide made her hair light, for example, or when she was going to take a shower I wanted to know which types of shampoo made more foam, etc”, jokes Rafael. Regarding the school experiments, he says that he was afraid and that at most he was playing with the mercury balls in the thermometer, which is quite dangerous.

Don’t try this at home

THE Kenyannews he also asked Rafael which experiment on the show he would not do at all, and the presenter cites the episode in which the volunteers cut their hands with paper. “It makes me shiver, I wouldn’t do this experiment anyway. And the guys are really good people to have agreed to do,” he said.

The experiments of the program are the most diverse, being one more curious than the other. But one of the most interesting, according to Cortez, was the episode about spatial orientation, about what happens to our brains when we get dizzy. “I didn’t know about this spatial balance thing, that experiment that volunteers do to turn that ring at 200 km / h, and they go out to walk on a tightrope… that’s wonderful”, quoted the presenter.

Rafael Cortez took the opportunity to praise the production of the program, saying that everything is explained in an easy way for learning. “The series is very illustrative and didactic, and the way it tells things, with all the use of graphics, drawing, explanations, is really a class”.

The presenter also told a curiosity to the Kenyannews, saying that, upon receiving the invitation, he believed he would be the volunteer. “I was very flattered to be the presenter, but I was very prepared to be beaten”, he joked, saying that he thought it was all very “like” him.
