Wine 7.0 arrives to refine the use of Windows programs on Linux and Mac –

Anyone who uses Wine to run Windows apps on Mac, Linux or Android can now download the new improved version of the program. The Wine update arrives approximately a year after the last version and brings about 9,100 code tweaks. According to the developers, the improvements provided a more robust solution for running Windows applications on other architectures.

Wine on Mac

This last package was essentially designed to deliver improved performance on the Mac, such as support for the WoW64 architecture, improvements in HID compatibility and the use of joysticks for those who want to play a Windows-only title.

In the case of the creator of the iPhone, you will need to have virtualization software such as Parallels or similar if you want the apps to work. The latest version is already compatible with Apple M1 Silicon, the popular chip in Apple’s latest devices.

Wine on Linux

For those who already had Wine installed, you will need to completely remove the old version before updating. In the case of Linux, it is necessary to be even more careful because some distributions already come with Wine pre-installed, and this could generate conflicts on the machine.

In the case of Android, it is also necessary to take into account the settings of the device on which Wine runs. You can’t play a program on an intermediate cell phone and want the performance of a dedicated desktop.

Not all Windows apps will run flawlessly under Wine, so it’s a good idea to check the Wine Application Database (AppDB) before installing the program. Most popular programs and games — of Warcraft, StarCraft, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Diablo III, EVE — should run smoothly, but you need to check it out so you don’t get disappointed.

The Wine team has updated several modules and released binary packages for distributions available on their website. On the page, the full documentation explains in a timely manner how to run Windows apps on other operating systems.
