Windows 11 gets more accessible in new preview –

Microsoft released this Wednesday (19) another preview version of Windows 11 for testers. Enumerated Build 22538, the build introduces significant enhancements to system control by voice (including an adapted virtual keyboard), improvements to Alt+Tab, extension of the Taskbar News and Interests to more users, and other additions.

The biggest new feature, the voice-controlled virtual keyboard, is an important feature for accessibility. The function lets you type character by character, which is especially useful for entering credentials (email, logins and passwords), document numbers, punctuation and emojis into text fields on your computer.

Voice typing is part of Voice Access, a feature that entered Windows 11 testing in December 2021 and is frequently improved in system previews. Unfortunately, voice access continues to be supported only for English.

Second is the improvement for switching apps — Alt + Tab or Task Viewer. In mode, the user-selected window appears with a colored outline, which varies depending on the PC theme.

Finally, News and Interests was made available to more testers. The function was introduced in Windows 10 and in Win 11 it is one of the shortcuts to the widget tray.

bug fixes

As usual, Microsoft has fixed Windows 11 bugs and glitches in droves in this experimental release. To facilitate, the Kenyannews highlights the most important:

  • Hitting the volume up and down keys on notebooks shouldn’t cause explorer.exe to crash
  • Folders named “Advanced” should no longer be shortcuts to Advanced Sharing Settings
  • The Settings app should no longer crash when going to System > Display > HDR
  • explorer.exe should no longer crash when closing Snap groups that contain 3 or 4 apps
  • Resolved an issue that affected Task Manager reliability

Like the other updates, this preview of Windows 11 is rolled out to members of the Windows Insider program. If the package hasn’t arrived for you yet, it’s worth checking Windows Update to see if it’s available for download.
