Google Labs has set apart a dedicated team to work on projects related to blockchain, decentralized computing and related technologies. The division’s objective is to create high-potential and long-term proposals for the ecosystem, with the integration of services such as augmented reality.
Who will be at the forefront of the actions is the vice president of engineering at Google Labs, Shivakumar Venkataraman, who has been working with the advertising infrastructure and payment systems for more than 10 years. The initial team should be relatively small compared to other product areas, but this may only be in the experimental phase.
Labs’ work appears to be research-oriented in the industry, with infrastructure implications for the company’s network and storage needs, rather than being consumer-focused. So don’t expect to see a unique blockchain network or Google’s own currency just yet.

Google Labs Projects
Google Laboratories has a dozen projects created or in production, with emphasis on the Area 120 incubator, focused on applications created by the company’s programmers aimed at the general public or small businesses.
Most launches are not officially incorporated into the product catalog, but they can serve as a basis for improving the company’s solutions.
Google has plans to offer cryptocurrency payments, but has never delved into the topic further. It is speculated that the company’s payment service could accept digital currencies in transactions made via the web, but nothing concrete has been seen so far.
