“I’ve never worked with such a rude cast,” says Joss Whedon –

Director Joss Whedon has finally decided to speak out about the problems shooting Justice League and criticized the behavior of the cast during the reshoots of the feature. According to him, everyone was very rude and complained that Zack Snyder’s fans were largely responsible for turning the actors and the internet against him.

In an interview with Vulture, Whedon said that the friction with the cast started right when he took over the direction mainly because of the way of work that he had, which was very different from how Snyder had been doing.

Justice League was released in 2017 after several production problems. Initially announced as part of the universe created by Zack Snyder, the film saw its director leave after a family tragedy and was led by Whedon, who had been called until then to be a consultant for DC projects. However, the film underwent many transformations and needed to be almost entirely re-shot – and these changes affected the box office.

But, beyond the failure, Whedon came to be accused by the actors of being abusive and having created a terrible atmosphere behind the scenes, to the point of being accused of racism by Ray Fisher, who played the hero Cyborg.

fight with actors

According to Whedon, it all started because of this difference in style between him and Snyder. He says that, until then, the actors were free to improvise and build the scenes as they wanted, while his method was more conventional, that is, wanting everyone to respect what was present in the script. And that’s when things started to get complicated.

He says that the actors started to complain about his writing and that he even heard from Gal Gadot that he didn’t know how superhero movies worked — even though he had two Avengers on your resume. For the filmmaker, everyone was very rude and that made the whole relationship very complicated. “I’ve never worked with such a rude group of people,” he said.

Regarding the accusations of having threatened the careers of Gadot and Ray Fisher, the director said that he never did anything of the kind and believes that Wonder Woman may have misinterpreted him because of the language, since English is not his. her native language. The actress denied the confusion and said that she always understood very well what Whedon was saying.

Regarding the criticisms made by Fisher and the decrease in Cyborg’s importance within the story, he explains that this was done because the character’s plot did not make sense within the adaptations and because the acting was not good – to the point that the exhibitions – test point out the hero as the worst thing in Justice League. That’s why, according to him, many hours were dedicated to adapting the content and that Fisher himself participated in this stage and that everything was always very respectful between them.

According to Whedon, all the allegations made by the actor are false and that he acts malicious. “We’re talking about a bad actor in every way,” he said.

Problems with fans

Another point that Whedon said has bothered him over these nearly five years was the behavior of fans on social media. According to him, all these controversies – from the film’s poor performance to the accusations of racism – served to inflame people against his work in a clear attempt to sabotage it.

“I don’t know who started it. I only know in whose name it was done,” the director told Vulture in reference to Zack Snyder, explaining that many fans used the director’s name to attack him, including his ex-wife.

According to him, despite being heavily affected by all this, this is typical online behavior. “The beginning of the internet threw me up and the modern one pulled me down”, he evaluated.
