Samsung Exynos 2200 may have been delayed due to production issues –

Expected to mark the official debut of the partnership between Samsung and AMD, the Exynos 2200, the South Korean giant’s next premium chipset, would have been delayed due to development problems. The information is from the renowned leaker Ice Universe, which also suggests that the production of the platform has been going through a troubled period for a few months.

Exynos 2200 may have been delayed due to production issues

According Ice Universe, the development of the new premium platform would be in a troubled stage since last year, presenting performance below expectations. The problems would also be affecting the Exynos 1200, a chipset focused on mid-range smartphones that would also feature AMD technology.

The leaker indicates that the most basic solution was originally scheduled to debut in November, but that it was also delayed, and points to multiple difficulties at Samsung LSI, the company’s semiconductor division. In the last days, Ice Universe went against the initial rumors related to the Exynos 2200 by suggesting that the component would not meet expectations, and could be “the worst Android chipset” on the market.

One of the problems pointed out would be the frequency of the AMD GPU — even reaching clocks twice as high as the previous generation, around 1,300 MHz, the component would not be delivering the frequencies originally planned by the South Korean giant.

Despite the alleged troubled situation, the components should not be abandoned, only being released later than expected, possibly in a window close to the alleged debut of the Galaxy S22 family, also leaked this week.

It is worth noting that the information is somewhat corroborated by the actions of Samsung itself, which had released teasers for the launch of the Exynos 2200 last week. The material indicated that the announcement would take place on Tuesday (11), but it was removed shortly after. of all the company’s social networks, without fanfare or explanations.

Chip will be first with AMD RDNA 2 GPU

The Exynos 2200 has already been confirmed to “equip Samsung’s next high-end”, and adopt graphics based on the RDNA 2 microarchitecture, the same used by AMD in the Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, in addition to the chips equipped in the PS5 and Xbox Series XS.

With this, the novelty would have the features present on other platforms, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which reduces details of areas of the scenario to increase performance.

Originally, the leaks indicated that the component would be the most powerful among smartphone chipsets in terms of graphics processing, even surpassing Apple’s powerful A15 Bionic. Over time, the narrative has been reversed, and now it is speculated that, in fact, the chip may be the worst among those launched this year.

If this information is confirmed, Samsung may have a complicated 2022, considering that, despite CPU problems, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is extremely powerful in graphics processing, beating Apple’s rival in certain scenarios, which would further expand the range. advantage of the Qualcomm component over Exynos.
