Autonomous cars must essentially be vehicles operated by companies and for commercial use, such as transporting cargo and passengers. However, some companies think differently and want the end consumer to have their own “alive” car, such as Intel and Geely, who join forces in a project that could revolutionize the market.
The idea is for China’s Geely to allocate its electric car company, Zeekr, to work alongside Mobileye, Intel’s autonomous vehicle arm, to develop an autonomous car that people can keep at home at a reasonable price. accessible.
This car would have autonomous driving level 4, that is, it could operate without any human intervention as long as within a defined area, such as an entire city or country, but on pre-established routes. To that end, the vehicle would be equipped with Mobileye’s best in automated driving and maps.

According to the staff of The Verge, the vehicle would be built around SEA, Geely’s open source platform that includes systems for braking, steering and power. On the Mobileye side, the contribution in terms of hardware and software would highlight the Road Experience Management, a 3D map updated in real time.
Israel-based Mobileye also plans to increase its presence in China, hiring more employees and building a data center.
When will it be launched?
The expectation of Geely and Intel is that the first car resulting from the partnership will be launched in China in 2024 and in other years in other markets.
