With the beginning of 2022, TIOBE, the institution responsible for one of the main rankings in the popularity of programming languages in the world, chose which of them was the most popular during the year 2021. The result favored Python, which wins the prize for the second year in a row.
However, unlike 2020, Python did not lead the entire year. In November in particular, the C# language was showing the greatest growth in 2021, but the number was surpassed by the current two-time champion in December.
According to TIOBE, Python’s popularity is due to its importance in machine learning applications, its use in data science, and the wide variety of function libraries available for programs developed with it.

AC#, which nearly won the 2021 award, came in second, while Java, the first-ranked language at the beginning of the century, was out of the Top 10. As for new languages, according to the TIOBE ranking, few can challenge the Python in the coming years, with an emphasis on Swift, mainly used for iOS application development.

The TIOBE ranking is done by analyzing data from surveys in online search engines and posts made by developers in IT forums about each language currently used to create programs. Positions are awarded monthly according to the growth of citations over the previous 30 days.
The annual ranking, although not published in an organized manner by TIOBE, can be checked by checking the annual growth rates of each language, made available by the institution on its main page.
