After Samsung showed a series of televisions as part of its attractions for CES 2022, this Tuesday (4) it was LG’s turn to present the update of its lines for this year. Among the series that won new models are the OLED Evo and QLED Mini LED, with news in areas such as image processing and new size options.
G2 and C2 with dimensions for all tastes
The company introduced a new option for the G2 lineup, with a large 97-inch panel — the product joins previously available sizes of 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches. Meanwhile, the C2 series gained a more compact 42-inch television, for those who want to use the product as a gaming monitor, or simply want a smaller TV. LG will keep the other versions with 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches.
Both lines feature the new fifth-generation Alpha 9 (α9) image processor, with advanced upscaling features to transform lower resolution images (such as Full HD) into an experience closer to the 4K supported by televisions. The panels also have an improvement in the display of objects through artificial intelligence and tone mapping with 5 thousand zones (compared to 576 in previous models).

Specifically in the C2 line, the construction of the television has gained lighter composite fiber materials, which make moving the product easier and more practical. The G2 series also brings new features in its structure, which now has a constant thickness throughout almost the entire panel for greater convenience when installed on a wall — the line also gained improvements in Brightness Booster technology for greater maximum brightness capability with optimizations in internal heat dissipation.
The models also gained improvements to the sound system, which now supports surround audio in 7.1.2 format instead of the 5.1 offered on last year’s televisions. If the user wants even more quality, LG will also launch a new soundbar with speakers facing upwards, in order to improve dialogue.
Consumers desiring a higher resolution can turn their attention to the Z2 range with the 77-inch or 88-inch 8K models. A higher pixel density can make a significant difference, especially compared to the 97-inch 4K resolution G2, which has distinguishable pixels when viewed from a closer distance, according to previous reports.
Televisions in the OLED Evo lineup are also optimized for gaming, with support for Nvidia G-SYNC at up to 8K. The feature reaches its maximum capabilities in conjunction with PCs that have video cards from the Geforce RTX 3000 line.
QNED with high color quality
The QNED lineup of LCD televisions was also approached by LG, with Quantum Dots (quantum dots) technology that brings greater image quality and color accuracy through an extra emitter layer. With Mini LED technology, models that bring resolution up to 8K have more than 2,400 dimming zones so that the user experience is improved in different types of scenes.
In addition, the 100% color consistency allows for high tonal accuracy even at unfavorable viewing angles, according to the brand, but what color gamut used to consider the scale was not mentioned. The products also feature the fifth-generation Alpha 9 processor for content upscaling and other artificial intelligence functions. LG will make the televisions of this line available in dimensions of 55, 65, 75 and 86 inches, with support for HDMI 2.1 and FreeSync 4x at 120 Hz.
WebOS 22 with individual profile creation
LG also introduced some features of the update of its operating system for televisions, WebOS 22 — even if the previous version was WebOS 6.0, the brand must implement a new naming logic to synchronize the digits with the current year.
The main novelty is the possibility of creating multiple usage profiles on the same device, using a feature similar to what is offered by streaming movies and series services, for example. With this, the system will be able to offer personalized recommendations for each member of the family, in addition to other adjustments that can be made separately.
The profiles can be switched through the WebOS system using the remote control, voice commands or even with the “NFC Magic Tap”, which uses the help of smartphones to perform the function more quickly and conveniently.
The new version of the operating system also features an Always Ready mode for viewing media while the product is not being used — content such as artwork, clock or information about currently playing music is user configurable.
LG has not announced the suggested price of the new televisions, but more details are expected to be released in new exhibitions at CES 2022, ie, over the next few days.
