The first cell phone with the chip is the Motorola Edge X30, which already points out the firepower of the new platform. But, of course, some consumers have their own brand preferences, so they wait for more manufacturers to launch to see how the chip does. The good news is that the Xiaomi 12 series has already been announced with the SoC, and can offer performance similar to Lenovo’s product.
First of all, it is necessary to understand that, depending on systemic optimizations, heat dissipation design and drivers, the performance of the same chip can vary according to the cell phone. So, there are those who expect a platform to be launched by one or another smartphone manufacturer. However, what is being pointed out is that even firmware improvements and hardware integration are not taking the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 any further than what we are already seeing.

Thus, optimizations promoted by Xiaomi would be leaving the chip with the same performance already seen in the Motorola Edge X30. That’s not bad as we’re talking about a very capable premium SoC. But what is being pointed out is that some Qualcomm oversights, such as energy management, are responsible for not allowing brands to raise the potential of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Qualcomm’s fault?
Thus, flagships that use Qualcomm’s chip in 2022 should be well-aligned in performance, except for those that do not have well-optimized systems, thus generating unnecessary overhead for the SoC.
Of course, a top of the line stands out much more than its firepower. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 itself brings a series of innovations for photography, for example. And making the most of them will depend on the engineers of each Android manufacturer.
Remember, the Galaxy S22 should be one of the next in line for the chip. To be announced between late January and early February, the series is expected to switch between Qualcomm’s component and Samsung’s own Exynos 2200.
