According to reports released by Counterpoint Research and extra information pointed out by Samsung, the folding cell phone market is growing at a faster pace than expected. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 models have meant that devices of the type have been sold four times more during 2021 compared to 2020.
Previous projections indicated that this increase would be threefold, and therefore the popularization proved even faster, especially in places like South Korea (where the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the best seller), Europe and the United States. The South Korean company also pointed to a 150% increase in the number of consumers who switched from the Galaxy Note 20 to the compact folding device — an even higher rate compared to those who switched from the same device to the Galaxy S21 (140%).
Furthermore, records point out that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 equaled the amount of total sales of their predecessors in the first month after their release.

The folding cell phone market is expected to grow tenfold by 2023, but Samsung’s dominance could be reduced by the entry of other brands with flexible smartphones, such as Apple. Therefore, its share, which currently stands at 88%, should increase to approximately 75%, still at a clear advantage over rivals.
A factor that may help in the popularization of folding is the reduction in prices charged by brands.
