Apple may launch TV controller with built-in Touch ID –

Apple may soon introduce a new control for its Apple TV, this time with a built-in fingerprint reader, the famous Touch ID. At least that is what a new patent registered with the USPTO, the American Patent and Trademark Office, indicates.

Apple has obtained a patent describing a television remote control with biometric authentication by adding a fingerprint reader to it. In this case, it is a utility patent and not a design patent, which means that this patent is not the idealized look of a future project for the brand, but rather what can be done by including a biometrics in a control.

This remote, in addition to controlling an Apple TV, for example, could control other devices, such as smart home products, doors, appliances and others. But a practical application for the Apple TV, for example, would be making purchases as well as auto-filling passwords or even controlling security-related HomeKit devices.

In the patent, there is a detailed description of how this remote control with the integrated fingerprint reader detects a fingerprint match. In this case, it would send a secure communication with another device to perform authentication. Other forms of biometric sensors are also mentioned, such as vein imaging or iris scanner.

Finally, it is said that there may be resources for parental control to create limits for what children can do using this remote control. Of course, as it is a patent, it does not confirm that this control will actually come out of the paper and will be presented by the brand. It just indicates that this is a company idea that can be used in the future.
