New Zealand bans tobacco born after 2008 –

The country wants to limit smoking with a view to creating a smoke-free generation. But the goal of abolishing the legal sale of tobacco could result in an increase in smuggling.

In New Zealand, everyone who is now 14 years old or younger will never be able to legally buy tobacco. New legislation announced by the New Zealand government also stipulates that the legal age for smoking will be increased each year. The goal is to create a completely non-smoking generation in order to reduce the national smoking rate to 5% by 2025, with the main goal of completely eliminating it by 2050.
