With the covid-19 pandemic numbers increasingly under control, Italy is now discussing the rules for the milder phase of epidemiological risk classification.
There are several meetings between governors and ministers to guarantee the advance to the so-called “white zone”, but in such a way that there is not an exponential increase in cases.
According to government sources, the idea is that a “reinforced white zone” be created, with much more freedoms than the yellow phase, but still with some control.
To enter this phase, the region needs to have less than 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants and, once inside, there would only be the mandatory use of masks and restrictions for agglomerations of a large number of people.
Currently, there are three regions that can enter this area Friuli Venice Giulia, Molise and Sardinia. However, governors and ministers are looking for shared national rules on care, but that do not “hinder” the broader reopening.
One of the ideas debated is to put a curfew back, but from midnight to 5 am – the first decree does not mention the existence of the measure. Another point is to adopt measures against the so-called “movida”, the happy hour that occurs between the end of the afternoon and the beginning of the night. One suggestion is to require that the consumption of food and drinks is done only at the tables and not standing in front of the establishments.
Also according to the sources, the idea is to avoid the “Sardinia effect”, the only Italian region that moved to the white zone in March, but registered a sharp increase in cases and deaths and had to go straight to the most restrictive phases – orange and red in the following weeks.
The latest epidemiological bulletin released by the Ministry of Health showed that the moving averages of cases and deaths have been dropping daily and steadily. There are 4,413 contagions and 143 deaths per day, in a solid curve of falls.
