Rawlings was a great African and nation builder

A former UK Cabinet Minister, Rt Hon Lord Paul Boateng has eulogized late ex-President Jerry John Rawlings describing him as a great African and nation builder.

Lord Boateng in a post said Rawlings’ energy and enthusiasm has left a significant impression on Ghana and the African continent.

“President Rawlings will forever be remembered as a great African and nation builder whose energy and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on Ghana and the continent he loved and served so well I hugely valued his contribution to Ghana Africa and the wider world I and His many friends and admirers in the United Kingdom extend. Heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife and family and the people of Ghana on this great loss! May he rest in Peace and Rise in Glory,“ he said.

Jerry John Rawlings died in the early hours of Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He died at the age of 73.

Citi News sources said the former President had been unwell for the past few weeks shortly after he buried his late mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui in October 2020.

Already, Presidents of various African countries have poured in their tributes to mourn the former President.

The governments of Liberia and Burkina Faso expressed their condolences to the people of Ghana over the loss.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has declared seven days of national mourning for the late former President.

He also directed that flags should fly at half-mast during the period.

Various presidential and parliamentary hopefuls have also suspended their campaign activities to mourn the late former President.
