Add value to your qualification with digital skills, expert counsels youths |

Founder, Digital Bananas Technology, a United Kingdom (UK)-based organisation, Mr. Keji Giwa, has charged Nigerian youths, graduates and undergraduates to improve their marketability and employability by acquiring digital skills, which would ultimately stand them out in an increasingly competitive world.

Addressing participants at an event tagged, “Career Insights August Onboarding Session,” held recently at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, Giwa said there were new and trending careers in the digital space that offer graduates and undergraduates, an edge over their contemporaries and Nigerian youths must take advantage of it.

He said with a “digital world” whose occupants were constantly on mobile phones, the key thing now is for industries to integrate into peoples’ lifestyles and offer desirable services.

Giwa added: “The good thing about Nigeria in terms of Internet connectivity is that mobile connectivity accounts for over 77 per cent of it. So, if you look at a country packed with 200m people and 77 per cent of them are actually connected to the Internet, that’s a beautiful market that would create businesses and job opportunities for people to thrive.

“Companies need project management and business analysis and that is why we are introducing digital project management roles and digital project management business analysis roles that would enable youths acquire project and digital marketing skills. We are providing qualification and some form of accreditation from digital marketing institute, to get the youths here qualified and learn new technologies in the digital space.”

Stressing that business on the platform has grown in leaps and bounds, he said, “As a business, if you are not integrated into peoples’ lifestyle, you are loosing a massive target audience. Every business must be able to connect and reach its people and this can only be achieved by the team of digital professionals. If you want to survive as a business, you must gain a competitive advantage, or at least, have the same advantage that other companies have. And so our youths would benefit immensely from this new market and build amazing opportunity in relation to business and careers.”

He added that the programme provides opportunity for Nigerians in the UK, who are doing very well to connect with Nigerians in the country and kind of leverage on their experience.

The duo of Funto Akinbisehin and Tosin Odunsi, who had earlier trained on the platform and are gainfully employed, urged the participants to make the best out of the programme so as to tap into its huge reward.
