Amanda Anisimova recalls Simona Halep crushing Serena Williams in Wimbledon final

American tennis star Amanda Anisimova thought beating Serena Williams in the 2019 Wimbledon was “a very magical moment” for Simona Halep. Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, was the favorite to beat Halep in the Wimbledon final three years ago.

Instead, Halep claimed a dominant 6-2 6-2 victory over Williams to lift her maiden Wimbledon title. “Her final against Serena, I don’t think anyone expected her to beat Serena so I think it was just a very magical moment for her and she’s an amazing player and she’ll fight till the very end so I think she did an amazing job and that was a very special tournament for her so I really enjoyed watching that match and she’s a very tough player to play on grass,” Anisimova said, per Sportskeeda.

Anisimova: Halep is tough to play on grass

On Monday, Anisimova saw off Harmony Tan in straight sets to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinal. Next up for Anisimova will be 2019 Wimbledon champion Halep. Two weeks ago in Bad Homburg, Halep absolutely crushed Anisimova as she handed the American a 6-2 6-1 loss.

“She is really tough to play on grass for sure, last week she was playing very well, it was a tough match for me, I kind of felt my wrist a bit in that match so I wasn’t really playing to the full of my abilities but I know that this will be a really tough match coming up but I’m looking forward to it, I’m sure that we’ll both put up a really good fight,” she added.

Even though Halep is the favorite against Anisimova, the 20-year-old American certainly can’t be taken for granted. Prior to this year, Anisimova had never made it past the second round at Wimbledon. Now, Anisimova has won four matches at Wimbledon and she has been through to the quarterfinal. Anisimova has a good serve and she will certainly try to use it as her advantage on grass against Halep.
