Jessica Pegula’s mother, Kim, is progressing well and is on the road to recovery following a health scare that left her hospitalized. Two weeks ago, the Pegula family announced Kim had been “receiving medical care as a result of some unexpected health issues.”

According to Spectrum News 1, Kim Pegula was in the ICU at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional. The Pegula family owns the Buffalo Bills (NFL team) and Buffalo Sabres (NHL team). On Twitter, rumors began to spread that Kim might have passed away from a heart attack.

The Pegula family reacted by releasing a statement and shutting down the death rumors. “Kim is progressing well and is resting and rehabilitating from a health issue,” the statement, obtained by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, read.

“We are grateful for the medical professionals providing her care and to everyone for their prayers and well wishes. We ask that you please continue to respect our need for privacy during this time.”

On Thursday, eighth-seeded Pegula defeated Great Britain’s Harriet Dart 4-6 6-3 6-1 to reach the Wimbledon third round.

The match started with three consecutive breaks of serve as Dart led 2-1 after the opening three games. Dart broke Pegula in the fifth game to open a 4-1 and a double-break lead but Pegula got one break back in the sixth game and cut the deficit to 3-4 after serving out the seventh game.

Pegula then had a chance to completely get back into the first set but she missed out on two consecutive break points in the eighth game as Dart opened a 5-3 lead. In the 10th game, Dart realized her first set point. After losing the first set, Pegula broke Dart in the second game of the second set and then held on to her serve the rest of the set to force a decider.

Pegula then made a strong start to the third set, claiming back-to-back breaks to open a 3-0 lead. Dart got one break back in the fourth game but Pegula broke again in the fifth game to again go up by a double break. Pegula earned her fourth break of the set in the seventh game as she plays Petra Martic in the third round.
