After having touched the umpteenth feat of his hitherto super 2022 and after beating the record earnings ($ 12,896,849) in a single season on the PGA Tour, Scottie Scheffler immediately returns to the green. The world number one, fresh from second place at the US Open, will be the most anticipated champion of the Travelers Championship, a tournament of the top American men’s circuit scheduled from 23 to 26 June in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Rory McIlroy (second), Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns will also take the field on the TPC River Highlands course – where there will be a prize pool of 8,300,000 dollars – as regards the world Top 10.

Curiosity: last minute cancellation from the field for Brooks Koepka who chose LIV Golf, the Arab Super League. After the success of 2021, the American Harrish English will try to repeat the feat. The English Matthew Fitzpatrick, champion of the 122nd edition of the US Open, the American Will Zalatoris, second last week at Brookline in the third men’s Major of 2022, and the blue Francesco Molinari will be absent.

In various interviews McIlory reveals that after 10 years starting the season in the European Tour with the first two races in the UAE, this year he will start on the PGA Tour, having tired of doing his first race on this tour, when many other players they have already played more than 10.

In fact, his first tournament of 2019 is the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. McIlroy makes his first appearance here, earning the invitation thanks to his win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2018.

He finishes fourth tied with -15 (69, 68, 68, 72). Three weeks later he flew to San Diego, California, to participate in the Farmers Insurance Open, also his first appearance here. After a fairly neutral first lap in the North Course, 71, he made three good laps on the South Course, finishing fifth tied with -14 (71, 65, 69, 69).

He then gets another top 5 at the Genesis Open finishing fourth tied with -11 (72, 63, 69, 69). The week after, at the WGC – Mexico Championship, after a first round of 63 strokes he tops the standings, but fails to take home the trophy, closing the tournament second in the standings with -16 (63, 70, 68, 67 ).

He joins the Arnold Palmer Invitational two weeks later as a title defender. After three laps he is at -8, one stroke from the leader, but a last lap in 72 does not make him defend the title, won by Francesco Molinari. He finishes the sixth tournament tied with -8 (72, 70, 66, 72).

The following week, March 17, comes his first win of the year at The Players Championship. Thanks to two first laps in 67 and 65 that put him at the top of the standings, he manages to keep the lead and win. He then finishes first with -16 (67, 65, 70, 70).

Two weeks later he participates in the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play, where he passes the group with 3 wins out of 3, but in the round of 32 he collides with Tiger Woods, losing 2 & 1. He then finishes the tournament in T9.

Two weeks later Rory attempts for the umpteenth time to complete the grand slam at the Masters. Very “neutral” tournament for McIlroy with only one lap under 70. The tournament is won by Tiger Woods by winning his 15th major, and his fifth green jacket.

While Rory finishes T21 with -4 (73, 71, 71, 68). He returns three weeks later to the Wells Fargo Championship. After a first lap in 66 that puts him at the top of the standings, he manages to defend himself for two days with 70 and 68, bringing him just two shots from the leader, but a last lap in +2 makes him finish T8 with -7 (66, 70, 68, 73).

At the PGA Championship, after a first round in +2 with three bogeys and a birdie, a second round follows very up and down with +5 on the second nine, but with a great recovery in the first with -4. He finishes the T8 tournament with +1 (72, 71, 69, 69).
