Mackenzie McDonald was surprisingly hit by an advertisement panel during the post-match interview he took after he had won the 1st round of the Mallorca ATP tournament against Joao Sousa on 19th June. McDonald, currently the 52nd in the world rankings, decided to retire from the interview after the unfortunate accident that also brought a few smiles from him.
After McDonald saw the footage of the incident on social media, he commented: “Ngl (not going to lie), that s*it hurt lol”.
An Instagram follower was fast to reply: “they shouldn’t be putting those kinds of lame stuff when wind is hard.” McDonald will face Marcos Giron in the 1/8 finals of the Spanish grass tournament. While McDonald managed to make a comeback after he lost the first set against Joao Sousa, Giron beat Van De Zandschulp in the first round. The latter match had 3 sets that featured two tie-breaks.
