The just-concluded Children’s Vacation Golf Kitty held at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) was aimed at developing the game at the grassroots starting with school pupils. The clinic/competition was held at the ladies’ section of the club in Onireke, Ibadan.

The one-day event, according to the Lady Captain, Sade Oni, was conceptualized to lure the kids into the game and positively engage them during the long vacation. It is also one of the pet projects of the office of the lady captain, she added.

About 50 pupils from primary and secondary schools, as well as some adult IGC members took part in the holiday golf event for which nine- year-old Hadi Sulaimon emerged the overall winner.

Oni in her remarks pledged to continue with the grassroots development programme by extending the IGC’s event to secondary schools in the city.

“I am quite happy with the conduct and positive attitude shown by these kids… it has definitely encouraged us to do more and continue with our drive to bring in more young golfers, both male and female into golfing.

“I only want to call on corporate bodies and public-spirited individuals to help this vision by supporting in any capacity they might deemed fit.

“I am sure we will soon produce good professional golfers that will do the nation proud,” Oni noted.
