Defender Godfrey Oboabona is back training with Nigeria after an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old Rizespor of Turkey export missed the 1-0 win over Bosnia-Hercegovina because of the injury he sustained during his side’s World Cup opening draw with Iran.
“The medics have given me a clean bill,” said Oboabona, who reportedly sustained a deep cut in his limb but no fracture, following a kick by one his opponents from Iran.
He went through his pace in a separate session away from the rest of the team in Campinas on Monday.
The cenre-back’s return comes as a major boost for the African champions ahead of Wednesday’s battle for first-place finish against favourites Argentina. A draw against the two-time champions sees coach Stephen Keshi’s team into the round of 16 for the first time in 16 years.
Keshi could name the ex-Sunshine Stars defender in the Super Eagles squad for the final group game in place of captain Joseph Yobo, who is just a game shy of his 100 Nigeria caps.
“It’s good news that I will reach that milestone but what is uppermost in my mind is for the team to win and for us to advance to the next stage,” said 33-year-old Yobo. “The rest will be a bonus,”
