This Thursday, OM hosted Qarabag, an Azerbaijani club, in the first leg of the Europa League Conference. During the match, Marseille supporters unfurled an anti-Azerbaijan banner in English “Qarabag is Armenia” (“Karabakh is Armenian” in French). UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings.
The body of European football announced this Friday because of the Armenian flags and the banner hostile to Azerbaijan which were deployed at the Vélodrome stadium in a very tense context between the two countries for several months. UEFA recalled that the “provocative messages that are political, ideological, religious or insulting in nature” are prohibited in the stadiums. OM is also targeted for the use of smoke bombs in this match.
