For the first of David Guion on the bench, Bordeaux was held in check by a Monaco reduced to ten for more than an hour (1-1). The Girondins lose precious points in the race to maintain. The Monegasques miss the opportunity to get closer to the first places.
For the 25th day of Ligue 1, the Girondins de Bordeaux received Monaco in a very important match. Red lantern, Bordeaux had no choice but to win this first match of the Guion era to breathe a little in the Championship. But opposite, it was a vindictive AS Monaco and with its offensive talents like Ben Yedder, Diop or Volland. No doubt for this reason that the Bordelais presented themselves with a defense of five to try to solidify the axis.
Unsurprisingly, it was Monaco who clearly dominated the start of the match against a well-established Bordelais who were above all looking to defend well. Gelson Martins changed everything
Shortly before half-time, Philippe Clément decided to bring in Gelson Martins to try to break the Bordeaux lock. And that’s what the Portuguese was doing. On his left side, he multiplied the races and made life hell for Pembélé. Even at ten, Monaco monopolized the ball and the Bordelais strangely suffocated in their surface. In addition to no longer bringing out the ball, the Girondins gave confidence to Monaco who could discover themselves without risking being countered. And what had to happen happened. On yet another Monegasque occasion, Martins’ strike was blocked by Marcelo who therefore deceived his goalkeeper (67th).
A gag goal for Bordeaux and therefore a new match without keeping a clean sheet for the defense. Faced with this draw which did not help anyone, David Guion decided to bring in a striker to tip the match in his favor. The men of Philippe Clément, them, logically decreased in intensity.
