silver medalist and Commonwealth Champion, Odunayo Adekuoroye, and five-time African Champion, Amas Daniel, are among 90 wrestlers that will hoist the country’s flag at this year’s African Wrestling Championships slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, between February 7 and 11, 2018.
The list released by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) yesterday segmented the athletes to adorn the nation’s colour into three divisions that include 30 cadets of 15 to 17 years, 30 juniors of 18 to 20 years and 30 senior wrestlers.
Seven-time African Champions, Blessing Oborodudu and Ifeoma Nwoye; Commonwealth Champions, Aminat Adeniyi and All Africa Games gold medalist and two-time African Champion, Mercy Genesis, are among the athletes and medals hopeful named for tournament.
Also included in the team is Commonwealth Games 2010 gold-medalist and three-time African Champion, Sinivie Boltic, who is also expected to make the nation proud.
Adekuoroye’s younger sister, Mercy, who made the list, is expected to vie for the 53kg cadet’s category, while Richard Seitoakumo (57kg) will contest in the junior cadre.
This is the first time a country would be fielding a total of 90 athletes in the African Wrestling Championships.
