Proteas’ batsman David Miller hit a defiant 101 against Australia in the second Cup semi-final on Thursday.
That game South Africa a defendable total of 212 as they look to advance to Sunday’s final against hosts India, who beat New Zealand on Wednesday.
Temba Bavuma’s men fell to 24-4 after they elected to bat first at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens before the left-handed Miller hit back in a 95-run stand with Heinrich Klaasen (47).
Miller reached his ton off 115 balls as he smashed Australian skipper Pat Cummins for six over deep-wicket.
However, two balls later, Cummins was celebrating when he had Miller caught by Travis Head at deep square leg.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returned figures of 3-34 as Australia bowled out South Africa for 212 in the second Cup semi-final.
