PBLMC picks Abuja, Akure for basketball league conference finals |

The Premier Basketball League Management Committee (PBLMC) has chosen Abuja and Akure, Ondo State capital, as hosts of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Premier Basketball League conference finals, which tips off from November 4 to 12.

Speaking after the body’s zoom meeting, PBLMC Chairman, Babatunde Ogunade, who is also NBBF vice president, explained that Abuja would host the Savannah Conference final, while Akure would host the Atlantic Conference final. He said both events would run concurrently.

He said that the top two teams at the end of each conference final would advance to the Final Four Championship to be staged also in November.

Nigeria Customs, Nile University, Kano Pillars, Bauchi Nets, Plateau Peaks, Gboko City Chiefs, Gombe Bulls and Correctional Centre will fight for the two tickets from the Savannah Conference.

The competition at the Atlantic Conference will feature Rivers Hoopers, Lagos Legends, Police Batons, Delta Force, Hoops and Reads, Comets, Oluyole Warriors and defending champions, Kwara Falcons.

Ogunade said that registration formalities for all the 16 clubs and players in the Premier League is expected to be completed on or before the conference finals tip off on November 5, while the teams are expected to arrive at their centres on November 4.

The winner of the 2023 NBBF Premier Basketball League will represent Nigeria at this year’s Basketball African League (BAL) slated for the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
