With Game 3 of the 2022 World Series set to take place Monday, there will be a lot of nervous eyes on the sky in Philadelphia.
Rain showers are in the weather forecast throughout the evening, and they could disrupt things for the Phillies and Astros. The series is currently tied 1-1, and the stakes could not be higher heading into a pivotal game.
The current forecast for Citizens Bank Park is for scattered showers to give way to more steady rain later in the evening. Here’s what The Weather Channel is predicting:

The rain is part of a bigger low-pressure system currently making its way up the east coast. Unfortunately for both trick-or-treaters and baseball fans, the odds of it dodging the Philadelphia area look slim.

Weather has already impacted a number of games this postseason, with Game 5 of the NLCS between the Phillies and Padres also threatened by delays. That game went ahead as scheduled despite the rainy conditions, and the Phillies won a thriller to clinch their spot in the World Series. Additionally, Games 2 and 5 of the ALDS between the Yankees and Guardians were postponed due to rain.
The City of Brotherly Love has been at the center of weather-related controversy before. During Game 5 of the 2008 World Series between the Phillies and Rays, the game was suspended due to rain in the middle of the sixth inning — right after the Rays had tied the score at 2-2. Play finally resumed two days later, with the Phillies ultimately clinching the Commissioner’s Trophy with a 4-3 win.
The Sporting News will be tracking the weather in Philadelphia throughout the day on Monday. Here are all of the latest updates ahead of Game 3 of the 2022 World Series:

3:39 p.m. — As one Twitter user pointed out, bad weather in Philly for Game 3 of the World Series is becoming a disappointing tradition…
Worst tradition in baseball: the World Series Game 3 rain in Philadelphia. Delayed the start of Game 3 here in 1993, 2008, 2009 — and a wet spot on the Vet turf caused a key error by Ivan DeJesus in 1983. pic.twitter.com/zhyuKDfBgF

3:30 p.m. — As MLB officials meet with the teams, the forecast has taken a turn for the worst. The chance of rain at 8 p.m. ET (right when the game is supposed to begin) is now listed at 99% on Weather.com. Delaying the first pitch probably won’t be an option with the rain predicted to continue through the night. It’s safe to say there is an increasingly likely chance Game 3 will have to be postponed.
The weather forecast for Philly tonight and World Series Game 3 has turned much more ominous with forecast now at a 100 pct chance of rain in the 8 PM hour and the 9 PM hour not much better. Officials meeting later this afternoon to assess the situation.

1:46 p.m. — According to one report, MLB officials will meet with management for both teams at 3:30 p.m. ET to determine whether the game can be played on Monday.
MLB officials are scheduled to meet with the #Phillies and #Astros at 3:30 ET to provide a weather update to determine whether Game 3 can be played or try to play through the rain that is forecast throughout the evening.

12:19 p.m. — The latest forecast suggests scattered rain showers that will grow more steady as the night goes on. That means a late start likely won’t help matters. However, as of right now, there’s been no word on whether the scheduled start time of 8:03 p.m. ET (7:03 p.m. CT) will be moved.
