With touching words, Roger Federer officially bid farewell to tennis. The Swiss was everyone’s go-to player on the ATP Tour and achieved truly incredible milestones, which he still holds after several years. Roger was simply unique on several occasions, including Wimbledon.
The London grass tournament soon became his second home. In that arena he was the only male athlete to win the first place trophy eight times. He said in his farewell to tennis: “To my tennis family and beyond. Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest is, without a doubt, that of introducing me to people during the path: my friends, my opponents and most of all the fans.
As everyone knows, the last three years have been a challenge for me, in the form of injuries. I worked hard to get back, but my body sent me clear messages. Tennis has treated me better than I ever dreamed of, but I have to recognize the moment to end my professional career.
The Laver Cup in London next week will be my last ATP tournament. I will no longer participate in Grand Slams or tour tournaments. This was a bittersweet decision to make, because I will miss everything the tennis world has given me.
At the same time, there is so much to celebrate.”
Roger Federer’s skills with violin? Horrifying!
A few years ago, for the Lucerne Festival, Roger was the protagonist of a commercial which saw the Swiss Maestro playing the violin on the tennis court.
Or at least try playing the violin? In fact, the results, at least in the commercial, were really terrible! Undoubtedly, as Federer himself, amused, said in the commercial, he is better with a racket in his hand than with a violin.
The funny commercial follows some later videos in which Roger showed his real skills in playing the piano: an instrument he is familiar with and can play really well. He himself admitted how he loves to surprise his wife Mirka by playing the piano for her.
