Manchester United’s 2022/23 Premier League season got off to the worst possible start after they were humiliated at home by Brighton & Hove Albion.
The only way is up for Erik ten Hag after his reign began with a 2-1 defeat by the Seagulls, who looked convincingly better than their hosts for the majority of the contest.
United have only signed three players so far this transfer window, all of whom featured at some point against Brighton. Many expected more new faces to have arrived by now and Ten Hag is running out of time to bolster his side.
Mirror Football has collected the Red Devils’ main transfer talking points as they reel from their opening day horror show.
Cristiano Ronaldo left red-faced amid exit attempt
The 37-year-old has made little secret of his wish to leave United this summer, but it must have come as quite the surprise when that news was met with little to no interest from other clubs across the continent.
Ronaldo feels as if United have failed to match his ambition when it comes to their dealings in the transfer market and as a result wants out – the problem is, very few huge clubs want him.
The same cannot be said, however, for United’s teenage sensation Alejandro Garnacho. A former Atletico Madrid prospect, Mirror Football understands he has as many as twenty offers on the table from clubs all over Europe.
It must sting from Ronaldo’s perspective to be starting games from the United bench while a player who wasn’t born when the Portugal skipper made his Red Devils debut is inundated with proposals from plenty of super-clubs.
Leroy Sane’s United comments

Former Manchester City wide-man Leroy Sane has emerged as one of the more surprising names on Ten Hag’s transfer wish list.
The German international spent four years in the blue half of the city but that has not deterred the United hierarchy who view the current Bayern Munich star as a potential option to bolster their ranks before the long, gruelling league campaign.
However, Sane’s existing City loyalties could act as an obstacle to any potential switch if his past comments are anything to go by.
United were linked with Sane three years ago when the 26-year-old was still an Etihad fan-favourite and he gave his thoughts on the idea of donning the iconic Red Devils shirt.
“That won’t happen! That won’t happen (joining United),” Sane added. “That won’t happen at all. I am really happy here and I’m on the right side!”

Sesko deal close as United prepare offer

19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko has attracted plenty of suitors as a result of his recent showings for the Austrian outfit, but United are thought to be the most enthusiastic potential buyer.
Sesko, who recently scored the winner in a pre-season friendly against United’s fierce rivals Liverpool, is rumoured to favour a move to Old Trafford over any other switch.
United chief John Murtough is thought to have met with the player’s representatives to thrash out the details of the proposed transfer.
Sportklub claim Sesko is impressed with United’s proposal and wants the move, which is expected to cost the Red Devils just north of £40m.
However, Salzburg director Christoph Freund recently tried to quash any talk of an imminent Sesko departure by stating: “He’ll stay with us for sure. We’re the perfect club for him at the moment.”
