The Kansas City Current have acquired French midfielder Claire Lavogez from Division 1 Féminine side Bordeaux, signing her through the 2023 NWSL season with an option for 2024.

She will be available to feature for the team against the Orlando Pride on July 31.

“We are thrilled to welcome Claire to Kansas City,” general manager Camille Levin Ashton said.

“Her incredible vision and play making ability along with her time playing at an international level will bring a wealth of experience to this team. Her signing is just one more indication that Kansas City has become a destination for women’s players from around the globe. We’re excited to see Claire out on the pitch.”

The French national team veteran joins with loads of experience, managing 35 caps for France and featuring in the 2015 FIFA World Cup, the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2017 Women’s European Championships. She also completed a stint with Olympique Lyonnais, where she lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy before joining Bordeaux in 2018.

“I am so excited to be in Kansas City and to play with this team,” said Lavogez. “Everyone here wants to be the best in the world, from the players to the staff and ownership. I can’t wait to get started.”

Kansas City currently sit in fifth on the NWSL table with a 5W-4L-3D record, but have not lost a single match since May. They return to action on Sunday against the Orlando Pride.
