An update has emerged regarding Tottenham‘s pursuit of Pau Torres in the summer transfer window…
What’s the talk?
Journalist Alex Crook has revealed that the north London club are keen on a deal to snap up the Spanish centre-back ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
The reporter also suggested that Spurs have an ace up their sleeve which can be used to negotiate a trade for the Villarreal defender.
Crook told GIVEMESPORT: “I was told that there is definitely interest in Pau Torres which brings [Giovani] Lo Celso into play in terms of some kind of part exchange deal.”
Supporters will be excited
This claim will leave supporters excited, as it suggests that Fabio Paratici could land a superb signing in Torres whilst cashing in on an underperforming dud in Lo Celso.
The Argentina international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal, averaged an unimpressive SofaScore rating of 6.72 in the Premier League in 2021/22.
He made a combined one tackle and interception and 0.6 key passes per game as he struggled to make a meaningful impact on matches, which led to Antonio Conte deciding that he was dispensable enough to send out on loan.
Tottenham fans must therefore be delighted to see the 26-year-old part ways with the club, as he has shown that he is not good enough to be a key player for them. They will be particularly buzzing if his departure comes as part of a deal for Torres, as the Villarreal defender has the potential to be an excellent player for Spurs.
In La Liga last term, the Spaniard averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.09 as he won a whopping 66% of his duels and made 3.1 clearances per game. The 25-year-old, who averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.00 in 2020/21, has proven that he can produce consistently impressive displays in a major European league, whilst dominating opponents from a physical standpoint.
He also caught the eye in the Champions League, with a rating of 7.00 across 12 outings in the competition last season. These statistics show that he has the quality to be a top performer for Tottenham domestically and in Europe if he can adapt to playing in Conte’s system.
Therefore, Spurs supporters must be excited by Crook’s claim, as they will surely be eager to see Torres come through the door to bolster the squad in the coming weeks. Hopefully Paratici is able to work out an agreement which will see Lo Celso go one way and the Villarreal defender making the opposite move.
