In a remarkable display of talent and determination, the third week of AmuwoGames 2023 has emerged as a celebration of gender diversity and the outstanding achievements of female athletes in various sports.
AmuwoGames 2023 has set a new standard for gender inclusion, with females actively participating and excelling in diverse competitions, including volleyball, cycling, chess, Scrabble, draughts, swimming, and the 100 meters dash.
Of the 708 registrants for this year’s edition, an impressive 12% were females, underscoring the commitment to promoting equal opportunities for both genders in sports.
This weekend marked a significant milestone as females not only competed fiercely but also secured their places on the medals table.
Feyiyemi Olowoselu, a 14-year-old dynamo from the Mile 2 Hawks, showcased her prowess by clinching gold medals in the junior category of both the Nirvana Water Cycling Tournament and the 100m Women dash.
Adding to the triumph, Rumaysoh Bello emerged as the lone female competitor in the Draughts tournament, securing the 3rd position and claiming a Bronze medal for her Festac Elephants team.
The Festac Bulls Volleyball team’s gold medalists, Candy Lawrence, Oluchi Eze, and Olanma Okoye, further exemplified the prowess of female athletes, leaving an indelible mark on the winners’ circle.
As the 2023 edition of AmuwoGames enters its final week, several tournaments have already concluded, including Video Games, Smoov Chapman’s 5-aside Tournament, Golden Penny Volleyball Tournament, Snooker, and Belgium Foods Table Tennis tournaments.
The diverse range of sports and enthusiastic participation has made this edition truly memorable.
Looking ahead to the final week, spectators can anticipate thrilling competitions in the Nirvana Water 10km Walkathon, Swimming, Perception Technologies Basketball, Tennis tournaments, and the grand finale – the football championship, which will culminate in the closing ceremony on November 26, 2023.
