Flag Football’s admission into 2028 Los Angeles Olympics — — –

President of the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA), Babajide Akeredolu, has commended the International Olympics Committee (IOC) for approving Flag Football as one of the events to feature at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Explaining that flag football has been gaining followership in Nigerian schools and at the grassroots through programmes designed by NAFA, assured that would present a formidable squad that for qualifying series to the Los Angeles Olympics.

“On behalf of the teams, members, chapters and NAFA partners, I would like to commend the IOC for their immense work. I would also like to express my excitement and gratitude to IFAF on their efforts towards obtaining the IOC recognition. This is indeed a noteworthy moment for American football and all its members globally.

“The remarkable engagement and participation from the grassroots in flag football has been a dream come true for us at NAFA. In particular, the ethos of inclusion and gender equality, which we at NAFA seek to uphold to a high standard, have shown potential for flag football to soar high in the space of sports as a whole.

As a nation, we have seen remarkable growth through flag football for which we are truly grateful to IFAF. With the support of stakeholders, NAFA will continue to espouse these standards to the best of its ability,” Akeredolu said.

The IOC accepted five sports for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. They include flag football, baseball/softball, squash, and cricket.
