One of the biggest sporting events to hold in Sagamu in recent time will begin tomorrow at the Elephant Cement Golf Club, where some of the country’s biggest golf stars will gather to test their skills.
It is the ‘Old School Golf Classic,’ a two-day event, which marries memories of the good old days to present-day golfing reality.
According to the organisers, over 80 active golfers have signed up for the classic, but registration is still open to prospective participants.
The arrival and cocktail party of the event will hold today, while the competition at the Elephant Cement golf course tomorrow offers many mouthwatering prizes for participants..
Initiator of the competition, Queen Adams explained that the “Old School Classic is designed to celebrate the memories of old-fashioned golf attires, club sets etiquettes and the general old school dress.
“The old school dress would be worn by all participants during the cocktail party and during the closing ceremony; on the course also we expect the players to put on similar dress.”
She affirmed that the event would essentially be a melting point for all participants to exchange business ideas and network for better opportunities going forward, just as brands and products will also be on display.
“We have conducted some research on the history of old golf attire, club set, golf etiquette and the business relationship which will create opportunities for exchange of ideas among participants as well as showcasing of brands and products,” she said.
Also speaking on the event, Stella Oke, a committee membe emphasised that participants would definitely appreciate being part of the event as they would be availed of the club’s other facilities, such as swimming pool and tennis courts, among others, to wrap up their weekend: “
“Golf is life; there will be lots of fun at the swimming pool, playing, tennis and other sporting fun,” she enthused.
Shade Opawunmi, also a committee member, said that with the good faculty of sponsors available, the event would be awesome.
“Our sponsors have been very responsive to our demands; the major sponsor is SMT, but there are others as County Finance, Alpha Strings, BJ Visuals and SOKOnnect; the much they have done so far is enough for all participants to be happy at the end of the day,” she said.
