Junior athlete, Faith Okwosa, did not disappoint her fans at the final of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Golden League in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Now, all eyes are on her to replicate her excellent form at the National Championships billed for July 6 to 9 in Benin City.

Running on the tracks of the Nest of Champions, Okwosa was a delight to athletics officials, as she raced to a personal best of 11.35 seconds, leaving in her trail Justina Eyakpobeyan, who did 11.51 seconds and Praise Ofuoku, who finished at 11.66 seconds

“She is our own version of the ‘Pocket Rocket;’ she is a talent we need to keep an eye on,” said AFN head coach, Seigha Porbeni.

In the men’s race, Consider Ekanem also did a personal best of 10.30 seconds to beat Sunday Okon Israel, who ran a PB of 10.32 and John Ibok, who did 10.80, to the second and third positions respectively.

Chidera Johnson had his moment in the sun in the men’s 400m with 46.66 seconds, while in the women’s race, Patience Okon-George remained dominant and unchallenged, winning in 52.64 seconds.

In the men’s long jump, Godfrey C. Edwards remains on course to break the 8 metres barrier. He did 7.79m; same mark he achieved in the Benin leg of the Meet. In the men’s Javelin, Samuel Jure Adams did not come with his A game as he did 72.97m, compared to the 73m mark he achieved in Benin City.

“We are looking forward to a full house and more exciting performances at the National Trials and it won’t be out of place to expect a couple of records to be broken,” the veteran Porbeni added.
