Southampton have had a bid for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana rejected, David Garrido has revealed on Sky Sports News.
What’s the word?
The talented winger is the subject of interest from Southampton, who are desperate to strengthen their attacking options.
Can Southampton stay up?
Yes – they’ll survive
No – they’re doomed
They have already missed out on a deal for Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson, who looks set to move to Bournemouth, but Sulemana is now their next target with just days left of the transfer window.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Garrido explained Southampton’s approach, and hinted that they face competition for the 20-year-old.
“Southampton have had a £17.5m bid for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana rejected, but they remain in talks for the 20-year-old, and they are considering making an improved bid,” he stated.
“However, Sulemana is on the list at other Premier League clubs who are looking for attacking signings before the deadline.”
A top talent
Landing Sulemana would be a coup, given Southampton’s precarious position in the league table, and he is already very highly rated.
He has been described as “very talented” by teammate Jonas Martin, but the Saints will likely face stiff competition for him.
Given that fellow relegation strugglers Everton are set to sell winger Anthony Gordon to Newcastle, they could swoop in with a late move for the Ghanian, and his price tag could rise even higher.
He remarkably ranks in the top 2% of wingers for dribbles, as well as the top 5% for interceptions and tackles as per FBref, and could be the ideal injection of quality Southampton desperately need in their attack.
