Who will be world no.1 at the end of the 2023 Australian Open?

At the Australian Open 2023 the four best tennis players of the tournament have been decreed. On one side of the draw, competing for a place in the Slam final are Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas: for the former, it would be the first last Slam act of his career, after two consecutive semifinals in a Grand Slam tournament; for the Greek tennis player, however, it would be the second after the one played at the Roland Garros.

On the other hand, there is the one who defeated the tennis player from Athens in that final at the French Open, even if he doesn’t remember it: Novak Djokovic. Waiting for the Serbian, who is an expert in semifinals and finals at Melbourne Park, Tommy Paul is in his semifinal: he is the American who has realized the American dream, conquering the penultimate act after defeating Shelton.

For two of them there is something else at stake besides the Grand Slam title: if Tsitsipas and Djokovic reach the final, they would be fighting for the top of the ranking here. A revival of the final of the last edition of the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud, in Flushing Meadows, competed not only for the possibility of winning the first Grand Slam title of their career, but also for the top of the ranking: the Spaniard triumphed, becoming number one in the world.

It is he who will watch the match carefully: if neither of them wins the tournament, he will remain number one in the world.

Who will be world no.1 at the end of the 2023 Australian Open?

The top of the ranking for Novak Djokovic is certainly nothing new: he is the one who holds the may number of weeks as number one in the world, 373 total.

A position, however, that he hasn’t held since June 12, 2022: a return would mean extending a streak that is already a record for him. For Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, whose best ranking is number three in the world, the summit is a goal dreamed of, hoped for, even touched upon: precisely at the last ATP Finals, the final victory of the tournament could give him that position, but defeated against Djokovic he had to give up and send everything back to Australia.
