An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their pursuit of a new wide attacker in the January transfer window…
What’s the talk?
Journalist Ben Jacobs has told supporters to watch out for the Magpies in the race to land Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech before the end of the month.
Do you want Hakim Ziyech at NUFC?
Yes
No
When asked about the Moroccan international’s current situation, the reporter tweeted:
“Wages remain an issue. Roma and Newcastle still two clubs to keep an eye on.”
This comes after the Evening Standard reported that the Magpies, Roma, and Everton are all interested in signing the winger, who Chelsea are yet to make a final decision on heading into the final few days of the window.
Imagine him & Alexander Isak
Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe could form a dream duo at the top end of the pitch by signing Ziyech and partnering him with summer signing Alexander Isak.
Despite only starting four matches, the Chelsea wide attacker has created four ‘big chances’ and ten chances in total for his teammates in the Premier League this season. The gem also provided two ‘big chances’ in one outing in the EFL Cup, against Manchester City, in November, which shows that the forward has been able to produce quality end product in spite of his limited involvement for the Blues.
In the 2021/22 campaign, the Moroccan international delivered an eye-catching nine ‘big chances’ in 14 Premier League starts, whilst also chipping in with four goals of his own.
His form in England comes after the gem produced a stunning 79 goals and 97 assists in 216 Eredivisie appearances in Dutch football earlier in his career, with his statistics in the Netherlands and in England proving that the winger can consistently create good opportunities for his teammates.
Therefore, the £100k-per-week 29-year-old, who was once described as “silky” by journalist Oliver Young-Myles, could be the dream partner for Isak in the final third.
Miguel Almiron has only created two ‘big chances’ in his last 39 Premier League starts and this suggests that the Paraguay international is not the ideal winger for the Swedish marksman to thrive alongside.
Isak has scored three goals in three starts in the top-flight this season, after plundering 23 goals in LaLiga between 2020/21 and 2021/22, and having a winger of Ziyech’s quality out wide could give him the chances he needs to keep up his impressive start to life in the country.
Now, imagine the current Chelsea forward delivering beautiful crosses in for the ex-Real Sociedad man to power in goal after goal in the Premier League. A playmaker who constantly produces quality passes and a striker who has proven he can score on a regular basis… what could go wrong?
