Premier League midfielders – 2022/23 power rankings

Many of the usual suspects have continued to impress in the middle of the park this season, but there have been some surprise stars too.

Here’s who we think are the 10 best-performing midfielders in the Premier League 2022/23 campaign at the moment.

Sometimes when players get linked to big clubs before signing for lesser ones, there’s a reason why they ended up where they did.

But Joao Palhinha has been a revelation for Fulham and would fit in well at a top side.

Did somebody say Solly March for England? Every Brighton & Hove Albion supporter, probably. No but seriously he’s been great for Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls.

Southampton are in desperate trouble at the bottom of the Premier League, with another relegation dogfight well and truly underway. Good job they have James Ward-Prowse finding the net again or who knows how bad things would be.

Bruno Fernandes

At the heart of Manchester United’s attacks this year has been Bruno Fernandes (who is back to his best without Cristiano Ronaldo clogging his sight-lines).

Casemiro

Casemiro is proving to be everything Manchester United hoped he’d be when he joined the club in the summer, adding some much-needed steel and stability to their midfield.

He did, however, get himself suspended for the trip to Arsenal and guess what happened? Yep, you guessed it.

Stuart Armstrong, Rodri

One of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, Rodri has continued to play at a high level at Man City this season.

Bruno Guimaraes

The best Bruno in the Premier League right now and quite possibly the best Bruno ever if he keeps going at this rate. Apologies to any wrestling fans with an affinity for the late, great Bruno Sammartino.

Granit Xhaka

Few players have had as many critics as Granit Xhaka in recent times, and few have silenced them quite as emphatically. Being given more attacking freedom, he has been a revelation.

Kevin De Bruyne

There’s not much to say about De Bruyne that hasn’t already been said. He’s just really, really, ridiculously good.

Martin Odegaard

After a decent 2021/22 campaign, Martin Odegaard has, like his team, taken things up a notch this season.

Picking up where he left off after the international break, he’s done enough to take top spot.
