West Ham player ratings vs Everton: Said Benrahma makes real difference as Jarrod Bowen delivers at last

A first-half brace from Jarrod Bowen proved enough to lift the Hammers out of the relegation zone, and pile the pressure on Frank Lampard.

Emerson almost added a third after the break, as his effort was tipped onto the bar, but it mattered not as West Ham held on relatively comfortably.

Here’s how David Moyes’ side rated at the London Stadium…

Lukasz Fabiański 6

Claimed one cross well but only save was fairly routine.

Kurt Zouma 7

Back in the side for the first time since knee surgery during the World Cup and defended aggressively. Flick-on created Bowen opener.

Angelo Ogbonna 6

Solid enough against the physical presence of Calvert-Lewin.

Nayef Aguerd 7

Made one fine covering challenge on Gray and was largely untroubled in the left channel. So good on the ball but might have done better with header from Bowen corner.

Vladimir Coufal 6

Nullified Mykolenko before the break before being given a little more to think about by Dwight McNeil’s half-time introduction.

Declan Rice 7

Made crucial intervention after Gueye’s heavy touch early in the second-half. Almost sealed it after brilliant driving run but might have been better playing in Bowen.

Lucas Paqueta 5

Seemed strangely reluctant to join attacks even with the insurance of Rice alongside and a back-three behind. Subbed.

Emerson 7

Cross created the opener and lifted another onto Antonio’s head soon after which the forward ought to have done more with. Saw strike tipped onto the bar by Pickford. His best game for the club.

Jarrod Bowen 8

A shadow of himself so far this season but came up with two huge first-half goals. Second in particular showed good anticipation.

Michail Antonio 6

Preferred to new signing Danny Ings. Got header from Emerson all wrong but deflected cross set-up Bowen’s second. Subbed.

Said Benrahma 8

Trusted to start and made a real difference. Long-range strike tested Pickford and injected some life into what had been a dismal game for almost half-an-hour. Glorious flick made Emerson chance.

Substitutes

Danny Ings (Antonio 72’) 6

Handed debut and brought energy, both on the pitch and to crowd.

Tomas Soucek (Paqueta 72’) 6

Brought on to shore up midfield.

Ben Johnson (Emerson 81’)

Flynn Downes (Benrahma 82’)

Unused: Areola, Cresswell, Kehrer, Lanzini, Fornals,
